- (true to) our heritage

Choose your frame, and choose a skin design that matches your character!

The evolution of the sea kayak reached its peak at the Southern tip of Greenland (the Cape Farewell region, where we're from) when the sharp East Coast kayak met the larger West Coast kayak during the 1850's migration.

This merger gave birth to the powerful yet graceful hunting machine that's since spread around the world.

It's now been 4000 years since this process started, and some say there are 4000 different kayaks on the market today. What other product can brag af the same success?

Having paddled all over the world, using many different kayaks, we finally realized that it was in our very own kayak where we would find the original magic, the FLEX, something that mysteriously got lost in the early 60's (fiberglass being highly suspect).

Perhaps those paddlers in the 60's were just plain irresponsible, how can you lose the flex from the kayak?

We decided to stick with the lessons our forefathers learnt and dug into our local history. The outcome was that we'd leave the kayak frames and construction in place, but improve the skin. After all - there are some 160 generations of our dedicated uncles, great-uncles and grand, grand uncles behind it.

Our frames continue to be built with sustainably sourced timbers, finished with quality natural oils and waxes to ensure years of use and beauty. Thus, you'll not only be paddling a smooth riding kayak from responsible materials, but there is one less epoxy boat on the water (and you'll have an even better conscience when you wash your camp dishes with bio-degradable soap).

Now to the skin:

Our very own SealSkin AD2010:
For thousands of years, the ASealSkin AD2010 from Greenland Kayaksrctic Inuit covered their kayaks with sealskin from local seals. Perfect in many ways, the skin lasted for a year at a time, providing a strong, elastic and waterproof finish.

Then there came sailcloth. The hunters struggled to keep it waterproof and elastic, but its ready availability ensured it stayed in use until the 1960s, when fibreglass was invented. Fibreglass killed the kayak's natural flex and so our uncles stopped using kayaks altogether.

After a few years of visiting textile factories all over Europe and North America, trying and testing all the promising fabrics, we decided we needed to invent our own. The outcome is
SealSkin AD2010 - a high tech fabric with sealskin characteristics. Supple, compliant and tough, we believe it will last for 50 years. At its core is the world's strongest fibre - Dyneema® - combined with high quality polymer and organic cotton fibres on the surface. Finished with our own silicone coating, the skin is water, salt and UV proof yet still allows the frame to flex in tune with the ocean - as it should.

That's why we like to say: Unleash your kayak (you don't need fiberglass any more)!
